karkowski + antimatter
function generator

"Prolific
sound artist Zbigniew Karkowski teams
up with Xopher Davidson (aka
Antimatter) for Function Generator,
the latest disc from the blossoming
organisation SIRR.ecords. One long track,
approximately 50 minutes in
length, was created using only extremely
low frequencies (no higher than
100 hz). The result is an incredible
piece of shifting pulses, rumblings
and
tones. My impulse is to turn the volume
up and bathe myself in these sounds,
really immerse myself so that I am living
and breathing in them. The house
becomes alive with vibrations, with
these pulses which are constantly
changing and morphing into new forms
and arrangements. What makes this
recording so successful is that it isn't
just a showcase for low frequency
pulses; what captures my interest and
engages my senses are the tensions
between pulses, the frictions produced
as they rub up against each other and
seem to manifest themselves physically
in the listening space. The piece
ends as the pulses break down dramatically,
one by one. What an incredible
listeningexperience. Truly, this album
is bliss."
Richard di Santo, Incursion Music
"In one long piece (50 minutes) the
two explore vibrations and pulses and
moves by like a giant beast on its toes.
To slag this down to ambient music
doesn't exactely justify the music,
even when it has slow changes and the
volume drops to an inaudible level at
times. It might be ambient to those
who play this at a low volume (like
I usually do), but at a louder volume,
this becomes much more violent then
of the power electronica stuff that
is
around since many years (or at least
damages your speakers if you are not
carefull enough). Karkowski once again
proofs his quality as a violent
musician, but this time from a really
surprising angle. Power stuff."

"Function Generator» é
mais um documento da prolífica
produção musical de
Zbigniew Karkowsky, desta vez na companhia
de Xopher Davidson, vulgarmente
conhecido como Antimatter. É
mais um de muitos discos, mas diga-se
em abono
da verdade que tudo o distancia da restante
discografia do co-fundador da
Sensorband: em vez de grandes massas
sonoras e do ruído branco ou
cor-de-rosa que o caracterizam, este
álbum decorre do início
ao fim do seu
único tema numa gama de frequências
que vai dos 0 aos 100 hz, ou seja, os
sons mais graves do espectro audível
pelo ser humano. Quer isto dizer que
os
que dispuserem de "subwoofer" nas suas
casas poderão usufruir melhor
desta
música que, por vezes, chega
à fronteira do silêncio,
para noutras nos
espantar com o peso dos seus graves.
Se se ouvir com o volume baixo,
aproxima-se do que habitualmente se
chama de "música ambiente", apesar
de
este ser um ambientalismo algo perverso,
mas se se abrir as goelas ao
amplificador a fruição
será totalmente outra, e esmagadora.
Uma experiência
sem igual."
