This
piece was recorded live at Phil Niblock's Experimental Intermedia
Foundation in New york in the spring of 2005 and is part
of Andre's ongoing series focused on creating micro-environments,
computer controlled hermetic spaces. Bringing together sound
and space through sympathetic vibrations, sound
is used as a medium to excite space in order to render audible
its natural resonances – sound multiplying in and
by space.
Six objects were suspended from the ceiling at different
heights, each one made from a globe of white glass with
one microphone, one speaker and one electrical lamp inside.
Each speaker was connected individually to a computer, that
triggered 6 different frequencies – one for each of
the speakers. These frequencies were tuned to the objects'
resonance frequencies causing them to resonate.
There was no amplification for the sound coming from the
objects. Kenneth Kirschner was plugged into the room's sound
system.

André Gonçalves
Lives in Lisbon, Portugal.
Since 2000 he have also integrated and created several projects
with diferent sound approaches namely 'ok.suitcase', 'etch',
'stapletape', 'ltthwhasp', 'iodo' and 'gigantiq'. Recently,
AG also created audio-light installations like 'pRe-production',
'8 steps', 'quiet not safe' and
'fake environment'. In 2004 he was granted
with the 'Ernesto de Sousa Fellowship' for experimental
intermedia art.
Self-educated
programmer, AG have been developing several audio-video
applications in max-msp, flash, java and processing presented
in multimedia showcases, online galleries or magazines,
in performances and, most of all, in his day work for developing
all his graphic, video and sound works.
His discography includes releases on the labels Grain of
Sound and Crónica Electrónica (pt), Stasisfield
(usa), Efervescence (fr), Cherry Music (jp) and Antmanuv
(can).

Kirschner
Kenneth Kirschner’s music combines
20th century avantgarde (most importantly Morton Feldman)
with contemporary electronic music. His methods mix achance
procedures with a rigorous editing only possible in the
digital environment. An advocate of freedom of information,
Kirschner makes his work freely available online, and releases
material under intellectual property licenses that encourage
– rather than inhibit – the music’s free
proliferation and appropriation. Kenneth Kirschner was born
in 1970 and lives in New York City.

AG and KK recorded this fabulous thing
at Phill Niblock's Experimental Intermedia Foundation and,
quite sincerely, no words of mine can describe the pure
intensity and the breathtaking tension that these slow oscillations
are able to originate. the sheer magic of these sounds speaks
for itself!
